Autumnal Gut Exploration
For this guided journey, we’re combining a bit of anatomy and physiology with awareness + energy medicine. It's well-known now that your gut acts as a second brain. But how do we intentionally tap into the wisdom it has to offer, especially this time of year, represented by the Earth element and all of its associated digestion and assimilation of nourishment? Let's go on a journey with your small intestine.
Here are the muscles that make up your abdominal wall:
You don't have to remember the names of any of these muscles or organs, just remember that you have layers of muscles that make up your "core" or abdominal wall.
These are skeletal muscles, meaning they're the ones you strengthen through exercise, the ones that support your posture, the ones that you can engage voluntarily.
Now, here's a photo of your viscera, or internal organs, beneath the muscles:
See that squiggly stuff that looks sort of like a brain? That's your small intestine. Unlike your large intestine which is attached to your abdominal wall, your small intestine is free floating in your abdomen.
Many of us tend to not only hold stress in our organs, but we even transfer some of the work our skeletal muscles are supposed to do into our organs. Today's journey meditation will invite this tension to unwind and the organ itself to speak.
